WEC Centennial
Ever since WEC began in back in 1913 there have been great stories to be told of what God has done. For the WEC centennial in 2013, WEC will publish two new stories of what God is doing nearly 100 years later.
WEC International Directors, Louis and Susan Sutton say: "We want to tell the story of God at work through WEC over 100 years, fan into flame a passion for Jesus among God's people and WEC members so that together we finish the job of evangelising the remaining unevangelised peoples."
'Not to us, not to us, but to your name be glory, because of your love and faithfulness'. Psalm 115:1
There is a story that's 100 years old and is still being told. It's the story of God's amazing works through weak vessels. It's the story of God's love and faithfulness to WEC. And it cries out to be told and to be celebrated. It moves us to thanksgiving and praise. And retelling it reflects his glory.
Centennial projects
To mark this centennial, WEC have introduced three projects centered around the Congolese church - the fruit of that first journey by CT Studd and his contemporaries in 1913.
The aim of one project is to help provide bicycles and books for the church in Congo, one ongoing need even 100 years later.
The WEC team in Congo have also organised two centenary projects for people to get involved with. Both are aimed at helping people to visit Congo (something that was unthinkable 100 years ago). Together with your help they have delivered motorbikes to the heart of Africa and there are still more opportunities to go on a prayer walk in the Congo.
Two new books
Storytelling rekindles passion. It fans the flames of our awareness of Christ's incredible love for us and deepens our passionate love for Him. So we tell stories and we corporately and personally open our hearts to be renewed by His love.
Storytelling reminds us of God's passion. It recalls Jesus' desire for us to be a part of that passion. In response we renew our focus for the unreached. We recommit ourselves to seeing multiplying communities of faith among those who have never heard. It's a daunting task and we are weak vessels, but we can count on our faithful God who has been writing his story in WEC for 100 years.
For the centennial year WEC will publish two new books, both aiming to tell these stories.
Beyond the Edge is a book of 100 tales of trusting God.
The Golden Chariot is aimed at a younger readership and has 33 stories from 11 nationalities about 20 different countries:
"This book will give you a 'kids-eye' perspective of life in missions. It has exciting, true stories, written by modern-day children whose parents are part of an international mission that is now 100 years old. These kids have found that God includes them in what He is doing. Some were present during major events in world history, some risked their lives on crocodile-infested rivers, others just needed a friend. The stories will reveal their hearts to you."
